Winter bicycling (including fat biking) is allowed on all Wisconsin DNR trails otherwise open to bicycling unless the trail is a groomed cross-country ski trail or if the local unit of government operating the trail has made a decision to not allow winter bicycling.

Fat bike rentals are available from Backyard Bikes & Skis near Whitewater, WI. Reserve or call ahead before heading over.
Emma Carlin trail system
This is a trail network on County Highway Z just south of State Highway 59. You’ll pass through hardwood forests with mostly hilly terrain. Three trails are color coded and range from 2 to 6 miles. Parking and vault toilets are available. Generally more difficult than the John Muir Trails, these are single track mountain bike trails. Trail map [PDF].
John Muir trail system
This is a very popular trail system on County Highway H north of the Town of La Grange and US Highway 12 and south of the Town of Palmyra. These mountain bike trails are single-track with five different loops ranging from 1.25 miles to 12 miles. Parking, water, and vault toilets are available. Trail map [PDF].
Door County Wisconsin
4.5 hours from Chicago
Nor Door Sport & Cyclery in Fish Creek offers fat bike rentals and is close to a couple great parks in Door County. Rentals are about $10 an hour. Keep in mind that biking on groomed ski and snowmobile trails is not allowed.
Newport State Park has fat bike trail loop which is groomed in some sections. This is Wisconsin’s first designated wilderness park and offers 5 miles of great trails.
